SDCERA was established July 1, 1939 as an independent association pursuant to the County Employees Retirement Law of 1937. SDCERA administers retirement and associated benefits for eligible employees of the County of San Diego and other participating employers, and is responsible for collecting, depositing, investing and managing the retirement funds. The SDCERA team works under the direction and governance of the Board of Retirement. SDCERA provides a wide range of member services to more than 50,000 active, deferred and retired Members.

California Retired County Employees Association (CRCEA) is a non-profit comprised of Associations, such as RESDC, representing the twenty counties constituted under the 1937 Retirement Act. CRCEA provides a forum for educating members and promoting retiree benefits and issues.

City of San Diego Retired Employees’ Association (REA)

The City of San Diego Retired Employee’s Association (REA) is a non-profit organization created to advance the social and economic welfare of all retired City employees and their beneficiaries. REA plays a vital watchdog role in monitoring ongoing developments in public employee retirement provisions and advocating for the interests of its members. REA Representatives monitor activities affecting the San Diego City Employees’ Retirement System (SDCERS), frequently speak before the SDCERS’ Board and City Council on issues of interest to retirees, and meet regularly with the SDCERS CEO and staff and representatives of the Mayor’s Office to discuss protection of our benefits.

The San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization (CECO) has been the charitable arm of the County of San Diego and San Diego Superior Court since 1956 and strives to ‘lend a hand’ to the community by way of grants to local non-profit programs and assistance to employees and retirees in crisis. One hundred percent of donations made to CECO are distributed back to the community.

Long Term Care (LTC) Ombudsman Program

The Long Term Care Ombudsman program advocates for residents in Long Term Care Facilities, such as nursing homes, as well as investigates abuse in other licensed facilities. An Ombudsman listens to concerns, provides information and assistance when requested and will investigate and resolve complaints related to care or personal rights.

The Network of Care for Seniors and People with Disabilities

Network of Care was created with a California Department of Aging innovation grant. The project is part of a broad effort by our county to improve and better coordinate long-term care services locally. This comprehensive, Internet-based resource is for the elderly and people with disabilities, as well as their caregivers and service providers.

Covered California is where Californians can get brand-name health insurance under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. It’s the only place to get federal premium assistance to help you buy health insurance from a variety of companies. That means you may qualify for a discount on a health plan through Covered California, or get health insurance through the state’s Medi-Cal program.

Medicare

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for: people who are 65 or older; certain younger people with disabilities; and people with End-Stage Renal Disease. The different parts of Medicare help cover specific services: Medicare Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care. Part B covers certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services. Part C (Medicare Advantage Plans) are a type of Medicare health plan offered by a private company that contracts with Medicare; Medicare Advantage Plans provide all of your Part A and Part B benefits. Medicare Part D adds prescription drug coverage.

California Senior Legislature

The California Senior Legislature, formed in 1981, is a volunteer body whose primary mission is to gather ideas for legislation at the state and federal levels, craft the ideas into formal proposals, prioritize the proposals, present them to members of the Legislature or the Congress, and advocate for laws implementing the ideas. George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers, Inc.®

The Glenner Centers run 3 specialized adult day care centers specifically for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Their centers are open Monday-Friday, 8:45 am-5:15 pm and offer caregivers an opportunity for a much-needed break from the rigors of caregiving. Each center offers an opportunity for socialization and activity specially designed for individuals with a cognitive impairment in a safe and compassionate environment. Their locations are: Encinitas, Hillcrest and Chula Vista. Their Chula Vista location, called Town Square®, is the country’s 1st Reminiscence Therapy Center. It is designed to model a small 1950s town so as to facilitate Reminiscence Therapy.

If you or someone you know lives alone with no friends or family available to consistently check on your welfare, You Are Not Alone (YANA) is a free service provided in most areas of San Diego County by senior volunteers in law enforcement agencies. A volunteer visits or calls a YANA client, making a social connection to let the person know that they really are not alone. YANA individuals can manage life on a day to day basis, but they recognize that a medical issue could become a crisis without support checking on them.
